Downy Woodpecker

After several futile attempts I finally found some level of success in capturing a woodpecker with the camera. This downy woodpecker (or maybe a hairy woodpecker – they are quite similar and common to this part of the U.S.) flew between ours and the neighbors’ crab apple trees. These images come from the neighbors’ trees – the shots on our tree were not clear at all – this bird was continually on the move – almost like a butterfly.

  1. Very pretty pics and very active bird! I know. We have red headed large one’s that I try to find in the woods behind our house. I love to hear them and I love to see them turn their heads to listen for bugs I’m guessing. They also hang upside down on our bird feeders because they are to big to sit on the perches. 🙂 Jen
