A few evenings ago, we saw bubble clouds in the sky. We do not get to see these often and, on this night, they joined a sunset to give us some color!
The official name for the pouches that hang below these clouds is mammatocumulus. The mammatocumulus can attach to several different types of clouds. They usually show rough weather on the way. In this case, however, we just came out of a high wind condition and only had some light rain later that night. Air traffic control guides airliners around the bubble clouds since there is much turbulence associated with them.
