Bubble Clouds

A few evenings ago, we saw bubble clouds in the sky. We do not get to see these often and, on this night, they joined a sunset to give us some color!

The official name for the pouches that hang below these clouds is mammatocumulus. The mammatocumulus can attach to several different types of clouds. They usually show rough weather on the way. In this case, however, we just came out of a high wind condition and only had some light rain later that night. Air traffic control guides airliners around the bubble clouds since there is much turbulence associated with them.

    1. This year has provided us with many great sunsets with lots of color variations. Unfortunately, we live in an area with a lot of trees so we miss out on a total look at some of those views. This one was very unusual – I can only remember one other time that we saw these bubbly clouds.

  1. Such a beautiful sunset with such vivid colours. That’s the kind of sunset I usually want to see when I go out with my camera to chasing this hour. Nice shots and you were at the right place at the right time 🙂
