I had a surreal experience on the bicycle this past Friday evening. As I turned the southwest corner of the track at the park, I heard a single cracking noise behind me, followed by a much more robust crackling noise. As I turned back to look, not twenty feet behind me lay the end of a twenty-foot piece of a sycamore tree that had broken off and fallen directly onto the track! The pictures show the end result of that activity.
At first, I thought it was a branch, but when I got a closer look I saw that it was a section of the trunk. I must confess that I have thought about this near-miss incident and the implications of what might have happened. It turned the weekend into an interesting experience in itself!
