We watched these ducks for a for a few minutes while they slowly decided whether to cross the road between two ponds. It seemed that the decision was a difficult one. The gallery captions attempt to reconstruct the apparent dialogue during this effort.
Horace: I’m crossing the road to the other pond. Who’s brave enough to come with me?
Vernon: I’ve got to go. He dared me?
Mabel: And if he dared you to jump off a cliff you would do it?
Vernon: Well, I can fly – I am a duck.
Mabel: You know what I mean.
Vernon: I have no choice; I have to go. It’s a man thing.
Horace: Come on. I don’t have all day.
Mabel: You mean you would rather be with him than me?
Vernon: Phew. I made it. That was close.
Horace: You were lucky.
Mabel: You were stupid.
Mabel: Men. Hmph. I hope they both end up laying across the dish in some fancy French dinner.
Vernon: What did she say?
Horace: I don’t know. She’s probably admiring our incredible manliness. Come on, let’s see what’s going on over here!
