Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge: Week #36 – Dolphins

What you see here are dolphins. These are dolphins in Lake Huron near St. Ignace, Michigan. Dolphins are docking stations for fuel tankers. The tankers formerly supplied jet fuel for Kinchloe Air Force Base which was about 40 miles north of St. Ignace. The tankers would dock at the ‘dolphins’ and send the fuel to fuel tanks on shore through an underwater pipe. The Air Force Base has long since been abandoned and the dolphins are no longer in service. Today they serve as perches for the birds and an odd-ball sight out in the water!
