Candy-Striped Leaf Hopper

I spotted this red and blue leaf hopper sitting near our rose bush in the front flower bed. Despite his pleasant coloration, this insect carries bacterium that causes deterioration to elm, oak and certain ornamental trees. According to my reading, there are no effective prevention or treatment therapies for this problem.

  1. Yes, he’s a really dapper little chap, but it looks as if his beauty comes at a high price. Over here too, we suddenly seem to be having so many fungal diseases to kill our trees, elm, oak and ash to name just a few.
