Red Admiral Butterfly

Another butterfly we spotted during our short trip to McCloud Nature Park was the Red Admiral. A couple of them sat on the purple coneflowers in front of the Nature Center. Unusual for butterflies at such short-range, they were very cooperative during the photo session. I have seen a few around the house, but they move very quickly when spooked.

  1. An excellent photograph of a colourful butterfly that also occurs in England. The tattiness of the wings is evidence of bird attacks on many separate occasions. That in itself is rather strange because a red butterfly is supposedly advertising how horrible it tastes!
